This week’s ‘Hidden Talent’ is Owen Moore, I played Freedom’s Child which is the opening track from his new CD, Songs For Passing Strangers which he completed just before Christmas. To date Owen has recorded four albums of his own all-original songs, but this new CD is made up entirely of songs by other writers. They are all songs that he has performed many, many times over the years, at pubs and folk clubs.

Owen tells me – “The title of the album, Songs For Passing Strangers, is especially meant as a reference to my street singing years. When I’m busking in town, my audience is constantly passing me by – almost as if the people are on a human conveyor belt – it is so different from when people are sitting there attentively in a folk club or at a concert…

I have performed as a street busker, on and off, since I was a young man, though these days I tend to pick and choose a bit more as I don’t like standing around too long on wet and windy street corners – it’s not very good for my health!

When I’m not busking, I’m usually still involved in music in one form or another, recording, writing new songs, playing in bands and duos, or singing from time to time in pubs and folk clubs.”

Freedom’s Child was written by veteran American country songwriter, Billy Joe Shaver.
