Thanks to Peter Hurst for sharing his copy of Lesley Gore’s version of You Don’t Own Me
Goldie Hawn, Diane Keaton, and Bette Midler sang this song in the 1996 film The First Wives Club. It’s also featured in Dirty Dancing, Hairspray and of course more recently Suicide Squad .
I’ve never really thought about the story behind Cat Stevens’ song Father and Son, but evidently it’s about a Russian family where the father doesn’t want his son to join the revolution, preferring him to stay home and work on the farm. I read that Stevens made up the story but it’s influenced by his relationship with his own father ( I don’t know how true that is)
